"I’ve had a habit of turning God into an oracle of luck. He’s the Magic
8-Ball. I shake him by throwing out my questions and expecting the answers to
float to the top. I just wish he would answer more often, “All signs point to
yes.” Actually, I’d even take “My reply is no.” Either answer would bring a
measure of relief and closure."
